Fostering FAQs

Fostering a dog means giving a dog a temporary home until they find their furever family. It’s more than just providing a bed for them—you’ll help teach them basic manners and social skills and will give them love and attention to help them thrive.

As a foster pawrent, you’ll help your foster dog learn important things like house manners, basic training, and socialization. Every dog is different, so some might need extra care and patience, but with time, you’ll see them blossom!

Yes! We have dogs with a variety of personalities. We will learn about your home, and we'll work to find a dog that is a good fit for you.

Yes, you're welcome to choose the dog you want to foster from our dogs in need of foster homes. We want to make sure it's a good fit for your home environment.

Foster dogs come with a variety of personalities! Some might already be well-behaved, while others may need a little more help with training or have special needs. Be ready for some challenges, but also for a lot of rewarding moments as you help them improve and get closer to finding their furever family.

If you choose to foster one of our dogs, we ask that you keep the dog until it is adopted or goes on transport to a partner rescue.

Yes, when you foster a dog, you’re committing to care for them until they find their new home. This could mean a few months or longer, but during that time, you’ll work on helping them become the best version of themselves!

While we appreciate the thoughtful offer, we require our foster care providers to be located within Texas, preferably in the DFW area.

Often, yes. After you submit your foster application, we will discuss your situation with you.

If you're planning a vacation, please let us know at least 6 weeks in advance. We’ll do our best to find a temporary foster to care for your foster dog while you're away. However, if we’re unable to find a temporary foster, we won’t be able to cover the costs for boarding. We appreciate your understanding and will work with you to ensure the dog is well taken care of!

Great question! Even if you’ve been fostering a dog, there is still an adoption fee if you decide to make them a permanent part of your family. The fee helps us continue our work to save more dogs in need.
